Capecitabine

Capecitabine is an anti-metabolite chemotherapeutic agent marketed worldwide by Hoffman la Roche under the brand name  Xeloda. It is orally administered and has two dosages 150mg and 500mg.
The chemical name for Capecitabine is 5’-deoxy-5-fluoro-N- [(pentyloxy) carbonyl]-cytidine. It operates as a fluoropyrimidine carbamate prodrug that is enizmatically converted to 5-flourouracil (5-FU) in the tumor where it inhibits DNA synthesis
Capecitabine is indicated as a single therapy for Colon cancer after surgery, metastatic colorectal cancer and metastatic breast cancer that has failed Paclitaxel and Anthracycline containing medicines. Moreover capecitabine combined with Docetaxel is indicated for treating metastatic breast cancer. It has been in the US market since 1998, European Union markets since 2001 and Japan since 2003.
